• HOUSTON, TX (MARKET WIRE) For the eighth straight week, pump prices moved higher remaining only pennies away from breaking the all-time record highs, according to AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

HOUSTON, TX -- (MARKET WIRE) -- August 11, 2006 -- For the eighth straight week, pump prices moved higher remaining only pennies away from breaking the all-time record highs, according to AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

The statewide average price for a gallon of gas is $2.937 a gallon -- less than three cents away from the record. Corpus Christi has the most economical gas on the survey at $2.853 a gallon -- about the same as last week. The city of Fort Worth increased a penny to have the highest average on the list at $2.930 a gallon.

"Gasoline prices in Texas have posted increases for the past two months," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "Problems with the Alaskan pipeline, on-going violence in the Middle East, and the latest threat to airline security have all added to the uncertainty in an already complicated fuel market."

The national average for regular self-serve gasoline is $3.036 a gallon -- up more than three cents.
